I. Concept:

Translucent ceiling or also known as translucent stretch ceiling. It is a suspended ceiling system, mainly used to decorate ceilings, walls, and columns in interior spaces. This ceiling system is fixed by a flexible frame system, combined with a tensioned curtain that allows light to pass through, thereby creating a special lighting effect in the interior space.
In particular, translucent ceilings are very light and durable, so they can be shaped into many different styles, suitable for all types of constructions and specific spaces. They are divided into 2 main types according to the surface of the translucent panels as follows:

- Translucent ceiling on a stretch background: Fabric, Velvet, ...

- Translucent ceiling on a hard background: Wood, Gypsum, Picomart, Fomex, ...


 

II. Structure of Translucent Ceiling:

Translucent ceilings in Interior Design include 3 main structures: Frame system, Lighting system, Translucent panel system.

1. Frame system:

Frame is made from many different materials. However, the most popular on the market today is the aluminum frame system or the box iron frame system, because the characteristics of aluminum or box iron are light weight, easy to process and shape. The frame will be shot directly into the wall or ceiling to help fix the lighting system and translucent panels.       







2. Lighting system:

The lighting system is installed in the rough part of the ceiling and is selected according to the needs, desires of the customer or the intention of the designer. In particular, before construction, this lighting system will be carefully calculated to ensure that the lighting system of the entire space is evenly distributed.



Currently, there are many types of lights on the market that help supplement light, but the most popular and widely used lighting systems for translucent ceilings include 2 main types:
- LED lights: The LED lighting system is considered the most suitable for translucent ceilings on hard and stretched floors.
- Fabric fiber optic lights: The fiber optic lighting system is suitable for translucent ceilings on stretched floors.





In particular, the lighting system of Translucent ceilings must comply with the following 5 principles:

1. Should consider using monochromatic or polychromatic light?

2. Note about the warranty period of lighting

3. Pay attention to the brand of the lighting

4. Light intensity is a very important thing to consider when choosing lighting for translucent ceilings.

3. Translucent panel system:

In the Interior Design Space, the Translucent Panel System is made from synthetic PVC plastic or fabric. In particular, they have the ability to transmit light from 40 - 90% depending on each type of material and have the ability to withstand heat, fire, and moisture to the maximum depending on the purpose and needs of the customer. Normally





, the thickness of the translucent panel will be about 0.17 - 0.36mm, combined with an aluminum frame / electrostatic iron with an average weight of only 0.5kg / m2.

III. Steps to construct a translucent ceiling:

Step 1: Reinforce and fix the shaped frame system to the ceiling and wall surface that needs to be constructed

- Drill the ceiling and wall to screw and then fix the frame system. During the process of screwing the frame, it is necessary to pay attention to calculating the distance between the light and the frame surface to ensure a safe distance between the light system and the translucent panel.
 

Step 2: Install the lighting module system on the back surface of the Translucent Panel

- After completing the frame reinforcement, the technician will proceed to install the lighting system according to the design to create lighting effects for the Ceiling - Wall. Note that when planning the installation of the lights, it is necessary to calculate in detail the location and installation density to be suitable and in harmony with the translucent panel model that the customer uses.
 

Step 3: Stretching, fixing, and installing the translucent panels

- When the installation of the lighting system is completed, the technician will use a specialized tool to insert the translucent panels into the slots of the frame system. It is important to fix the corners first before proceeding to insert the remaining positions into the frame.
 

Step 4: Fix the installation of the Translucent Panel to the Frame
 

- Use a hot air blower to stretch the translucent sheet with the base sheet stretched on the shaped frame. Note that at this stage, you must carefully check to avoid any position of the translucent sheet being wrinkled or folded.
 

Step 5: General cleaning and handover
 
- Carefully check the overall and detailed aspects then clean thoroughly for handover to the investor.
 

IV. Classification and Application of Translucent Ceilings:

1. Translucent Ceilings on Stretched Background:

Translucent Ceilings on Stretched Background are translucent systems arranged on fabric or velvet surfaces. This ceiling system will be meticulously processed step by step to ensure that light can be evenly distributed on the surface.

1.1. Advantages:

- Good sound absorption, noise reduction for the entire space
- Easy to clean
- Ability to create realistic shapes
- Suitable for residential spaces

1.2. Disadvantages:

- High cost and meticulousness in the construction process
